Department Description

The Comparative Bioscience Center provides a comprehensive program of animal care in support of the University's in vivo research. The goal of our staff is to provide investigators with the highest level of research support at the lowest cost while ensuring the welfare of the animals used in the research. The center is fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).

Detailed Description

The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for all tasks related to animal order purchasing and for receiving and directing all incoming traffic passing through the Comparative Bioscience Center (CBC) Main Office. For the animal ordering component, will use the Oracle Applications program to process and maintain animal orders and serve as a liaison between vendors and investigators. For the reception role, will provide customer service to investigative staff, directing callers, and welcoming visitors to the CBC Main Office. Responsibilities include overseeing the front desk by welcoming and directing visitors, deliveries, and customers, processing and maintaining animal orders, serving as a liaison between vendors and investigators, maintaining procedure and surgery room logbook and the staff sign-off sheet, and distributing keys and departmental paper paychecks, mail and packages received from the mailroom. Additional responsibilities include filling in for other teammates when required and working on special projects as needed.

Job Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse groups in a professional manner, while accommodating changing priorities in a busy environment. Strong customer service skills and the capacity to be a team player with a strong sense of integrity, and an ability to accept different points of view necessary. Experience in event organization/ planning a plus. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint necessary.
