Job Information
Rockefeller University Research Assistant (Part-Time, 20 hours/week) in New York, New York
Job: IRC27890
Description
Job Title Research Assistant (Part-Time, 20 hours/week)
Laboratory / Department Laboratory of Chromosome and Cell Biology
Department Description
Our laboratory is interested in the mechanisms controlling the spatial and temporal control of mitosis. in particular, how the dynamic chromosome structure can create, maintain, and propagate the signals to control mitosis. We combine biochemical, cell biological and biophysical methods to approach these questions. We are studying the mechanisms by which the chromosomal passenger complex (CPC) regulates the spatial control of spindle assembly. We are studying how the CPC and other chromosome-binding proteins modulate microtubule-chromosome interactions to accomplish this task. We are investigating the dynamics of histone modifications during mitosis and biological roles of these modifications. We are studying how structural changes in DNA are recognized, and how this recognition generates a variety of downstream signals. We are systematically identifying proteins that associate with metaphase chromosomes using expression screening and mass spectrometry with the goal of gaining new insights into the control of chromatin-directed mitotic events.
Detailed Description
The Research Assistant will assist with research on mitosis, chromosomes, and cancer biology. Will conduct molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, and structural biology experiments related to the mechanisms that maintain genome integrity, innate immunity, and chromosome architectures. Additional responsibilities include managing, ordering, and receiving supplies and equipment, as well as liaising with vendors, University Administration Departments, and Laboratory Safety.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or structural biology preferred. Must have a minimum of one year of research experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology, genetics, cell biology, cancer biology, or immunology. Working knowledge of sterile technique, chemical handling, recombinant DNA techniques essential. Experience with protein analyses, tissue culture cells, structural biology, and computer programming preferred.
