Rockefeller University Research Assistant in New York, New York
Job Title Research Assistant
Laboratory / Department Laboratory of Molecular Biology
Research in the laboratory of molecular biology aims to identify the genes, circuits, cells, macromolecular assemblies and individual molecules that contribute to the function and dysfunction of the mammalian brain. Scientists in the laboratory of molecular biology have developed a suite of novel approaches based on the manipulation of bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) to investigate the histological and functional complexities of the mammalian brain in vivo and to understand how these mechanisms become dysfunctional in disease.
Our lab seeks a highly motivated individual to work on a project that will study animal models of brain dysfunction. The person who will join our team will initially work under the supervision of a senior technician and assist with mouse colony management. Responsibilities include the handling, mating, and identification of mouse lines for a variety of projects and collection of biological samples for PCR analysis. Cryo-sectioning and/ or subcellular fractionation of brain tissue for protein or RNA analysis will also be the responsibility of the applicant. Additional duties will include preparing reagents for experiments, keeping an inventory of supplies, inputting information into the laboratory's database, and other operational tasks required by the project. Candidate must be organized, have good communication skills, and keep clear, accurate records.
Bachelor's degree required. Must have some familiarity with a laboratory setting and be reliable, willing to learn and posses the ability to follow protocols precisely.
