Job Information
Rockefeller University Research Assistant in New York, New York
Job: IRC27887
Description
Job Title Research Assistant
Laboratory / Department Laboratory of Mammalian Cell Biology and Development
Department Description
Our laboratory begins with molecular mechanisms, and we work our way to the genetic bases of human diseases that are caused by defects in the proteins we study. We have repeatedly used this reverse genetic approach to successfully elucidate the genetic bases of a variety of human and mouse disorders, ranging from blistering skin disorders and skin tumors/cancers, to a rare form of muscle degeneration and a sensory neurological disorder.
Detailed Description
The Research Assistant will work as a part of a highly talented team of molecular, cell, and developmental biologists seeking to develop new small molecule inhibitors to target tumor stem cells in squamous cell carcinoma. The Research Assistant will be responsible for screening chemical libraries using our unique cell-based platform to identify novel small molecule inhibitors, as well as designing and carrying out experiments to functionally validate candidate molecules in both in-vitro and in-vivo settings. Depending on a candidates' science and experience, there will be opportunities to be involved in related research projects.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis on molecular or cell biology preferred. Must have a minimum of 2 years of strong research experience working in undergraduate or postbaccalaureate labs, as well as strong molecular biology and tissue culture skills. Experience with library preparation for next generation sequencing and/or experience with translational reporters are a plus. Mice handling experience also a plus. Must be a fast learner and quick to transition to independence. Must thrive in a fast-paced research lab and interact well with a dynamic group of postdoctoral researchers and students.
