Reporting to the Vertebrate Genome Laboratory (VGL) Director, the Research Support Assistant will be responsible for performing a variety of complex technical duties involved in assisting with and conducting laboratory procedures in support of the VGL. The Research Support Assistant will assist in the daily operation of a Next-Generation Sequencing laboratory and perform operation and maintenance of the instruments independently. Responsibilities also include preparing and processing samples submitted by collaborators and users for various types of DNA sequencing, including Hi-C, managing laboratory inventory, maintaining equipment, and ensuring laboratory compliance.
Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biology, chemistry, or other life science-related field preferred. Previous laboratory experience and an interest in genomics are necessary. Experience with Illumina library preparation required, and experience with isolation from one of the leading Next-Generation Sequencing technologies (Illumina, Pacific Biosciences, Oxford Nanopore) a plus. Excellent lab and time management skills, strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills necessary. Successful multitasking and prioritizing abilities, strong attention to detail, scientific integrity, and the ability to work under pressure are required.
